The Brunswick Square quilt pattern was inspired by a beautiful black and white floor tile. Named after the home of Emma Woodhouse’s sister Isabella and her husband John Knightley, this pattern embodies that timeless elegance so reminiscent of Jane Austen. The pattern is a medallion style quilt that builds from the center out and is simple and fun to make.
The Classic version of Brunswick Square is simple but oh so elegant. Make a bold statement with two contrasting colors for an eye catching addition to your home decor.
The contemporary version uses 5 colors to give the design more depth and movement. I love this ombre version using Fableism Sprout Wovens.
The Scrappy version uses 7 colors and no background fabric. This version is for you if you love to play with color. It’s perfect for that fabric bundle you’ve been saving, or have fun raiding your stash for the perfect combination of colors.
With three different versions of the quilt and seven sizes from throw pillow to king, this pattern gives you 18 different options! There are so many fun ways to make this quilt. Let’s take a look!
The classic version of this quilt is the original design and is so visually stunning. It’s simple but elegant and perfect for any home. I love that you only need 2 colors to make such a visual impact.
The custom quilting for my cover quilt was done by Emily Siddal @browneyedquilter and she did such a fabulous job! Check out her work here.
Shown above is a King size made by Alicia of Wild Blooms Quilt Co. Each larger size has a slightly different layout with special borders on the top and bottom. The Twin and King sizes are similar with these nine-patch borders that are just so sweet!
Apparently, AGF pure solids Creme de la creme and Gingerbread are the perfect combination! They sound pretty yummy too. I love this classic version by Victoria of @midlifequilter. She put the lighter color in the middle and it really makes the quilt pop.
Lynn @lynncycle experimented with some fun colors in her classic version of the Brunswick Square quilt. It’s such an unexpected color combination!
Mary and Emily of @rosiegirlquilting never disappoint with their gorgeous traditional quilts. This one has such a beautiful yet neutral color combo that would work in any home. Plus that texture and the woven fabrics are giving me all the heart eyes.
Marie-Claude of Chasing Quilts made this soft and sweet classic version in a bed size and it’s so perfect for a neutral bedroom or home. These colors have just enough contrast but keep it so soothing and simple. You can get a kit for this version from Canada based Chasing Quilts.
Joyce @evamaescustomquilts made this beautiful classic version and reversed the dark and light colors. I love it! It gives the quilt a whole new look. She used AGF pure solids in moonstone and potters clay.
The contemporary version grew out of playing with color placement and realizing that I really loved the gradiant of color from the center moving outward. The contemporary version uses 5 colors and a background fabric. In my version shown here, I used a Rifle Paper Co floral as the background so the solid Fableism Sprout wovens would really pop. At first I thought the quilt would be way too busy, but I ended up absolutely loving the result.
The Fableism Sprout woven colors I used are: Pineneedle, Mallard, Malachite, Cenote, and Arctic. The background is Camont – Menagerie in Navy metallic by Rifle paper Co. You can find most of these fabrics here.
Amanda @thequiltsmith made this contemporary version with an unexpected mix of colors. The green and the orange are so fun together but are softened up by the more simple black and mushroom. The twin size might be my favorite layout with those fun top and bottom borders.
Alaina @heliotropegreen used such a fun mix of bright colors for her contemporary version. It’s such a happy quilt!! Simple or bold, this pattern is perfect for both.
So this version is called “scrappy” but it isn’t a scrappy quilt per se. I used that name to indicate that it uses smaller amounts of 7 different fabrics so you could potentially pull from your stash. However, the layout of the quilt is not scrappy. It is very strategic and creates a beautiful quilt with colors radiating out from the center.
The Scrappy version of this quilt is such a fun make. With 7 different colors and no background fabric, the possibilities are endless. I feel like it lends itself perfectly for a baby quilt or a kids throw blanket. You could go super bright and vibrant or more muted.
I love the more muted version that Mary @embercraftcompany made using these soft pink, rust and cream colors. (Pictured below) It’s so dreamy!!
